Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase printing speed by detecting early the printing position and transmitting the print positioning data while the data preceding by a line are printed. CONSTITUTION:The print data on the 1st line given from a processor 1 is sent to the 1st buffer 7 of a buffer part 3 and then sent immediately to the 2nd buffer 8 owing to an idle state of the buffer 7. Then the idle buffer 7 requests the data on the 2nd line to the processor 1 and receives it from the processor 1. The data on the 1st line are sent to a serial printer 4 from the buffer 8 to perform a seeking action and starts a printing action when the printing position is decided. Meanwhile the number of characters to be printed on the 2nd line are counted by a seek data detecting part 5 by means of the data on the 2nd line of the buffer 7. Thus the seek data are detected and written to the end of the print data on the 1st line of the buffer 8 via a seek data writing part 6. These actions are repeated to write the data on the following lines in parallel to the buffer 8 during a printing operation. Thus the serial printing actions are carried out with no interruption and therefore the printing speed is increased substantially.

1. Means for Solving Problem 1" This invention relates to a data transfer method for a serial printer in which data is serially transferred from a processing device to a print link for printing. Control is performed by an interface control section, and data sent from the processing device via the interface control section is temporarily stored in a buffer section and then supplied to the printer.

FIG. 1 shows an embodiment of the invention. Normally, data generated by the processing device 1 is sent to the buffer section 3 via the cover control section 2 and printed by the serial printer 4. In this data transfer, the number of prints in one line is counted by the seek data detection unit 5 using the data of one line stored in the two-buffer unit 3, and seek data for determining the print position 1;゛t is detected.
