Abstract

PURPOSE:To record desired images in a heat-sublimable ink material even on a recording medium not subjected to a special treatment, by separately applying a heat-sublimable ink material and a color developer on a base film. CONSTITUTION:The base film is coated separately with a heat-sublimable ink material and a heat-sublimable ink color developer. The color developer 3 may be applied for every two areas of the ink material 2, may be applied alternately with the area of the ink material 2, or any be applied for every several areas of the ink material 2. In recording, the entire part, or a part corresponding to predetermined picture element positions, of the region of the color developer 3 is first thermally transferred onto a recording medium such as an ordinary paper and a metallic sheet to provide a layer for developing the color of the ink material 2 on the medium. Thereafter, the entire part, or a part corresponding to predetermined picture element positions, of the ink material 2 is thermally transferred onto the layer thus provided, thereby recording desired images.

In this example, the sublimable ink color developing material (3) was applied to every two areas of the heat sublimable ink material (2), but it may be applied alternately or every multiple areas. Next, in the recording method using the above thermal transfer sheet, first, the entire area of the sublimable ink developer (3) or the portion corresponding to a predetermined pixel position is transferred to a recording medium such as plain paper or metal. After forming a layer on the recording medium that develops color using heat-sublimable ink material (2) by thermal transfer, the entire area of heat-sublimable ink material (2) or a portion corresponding to a predetermined pixel position is transferred to the above layer. A desired recorded image is formed by thermal transfer.
