触媒コンバータであつて、 前記触媒コンバータは、流入された排気ガスが
拡張されて触媒担体層内に流入させる排気ガス拡
張部と、排気ガスがその中の流路を流通する過程
で浄化される触媒担体層と、触媒担体層から流出
された排気ガスが収束する排気ガス収縮部とから
なり、前記触媒コンバータに流入された排気ガス
の、排気ガス拡張部から触媒担体層へ、及び、触
媒担体層から排気ガス収納部への流れ方向の変化
を45〜90°の角度範囲とするとともに、上述
の排気ガスの流れ方向の変化を滑らかとするよう
な排気ガスの流れ方向の案内部材を、触媒コンバ
ータ内における、触媒担体層の上流である排気ガ
ス拡張部、及び、触媒担体層の下流である排気ガ
ス収縮部に設けたことを特徴とする触媒コンバー
