[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Field of Application of the Invention] The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device that is widely used for displaying various characters or graphics, and particularly relates to a liquid crystal display device in which metal wiring is provided on a substrate such as glass that constitutes a liquid crystal display element. The present invention relates to a metal wiring arrangement structure of a so-called step-on-glass type liquid crystal display device in which a liquid crystal driving element is directly connected to the metal wiring arrangement structure.

Conventionally, this type of liquid crystal display device has been disclosed, for example, in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 56-5
As shown in Japanese Patent No. 0368, generally, a plurality of metal wirings connected to display electrodes are formed on a glass substrate constituting a liquid crystal display element, and bonding pads are provided on these metal wirings. An LSI element for driving a liquid crystal was connected and arranged on the padding pad by wire bonding.

However, in liquid crystal display devices configured in this way, the mounting position of the LSI element is different for each liquid crystal display device, so the expandability of the LSI element is low, and the LSI element may fail. It was difficult to repair it next time, and the repair techniques were also limited.

Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and its purpose is to provide a liquid crystal display device that can be easily repaired in the event that the L8I element breaks down. . Another object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal display device in which other circuit boards can be mounted without changing the metal wiring.

In the figure, 1 is an upper glass substrate constituting a liquid crystal display element, 2 is a lower glass substrate, and these glass substrates 1 and 2 have display electrodes on each opposing surface consisting of a pair of segment electrodes 3a and a common electrode 3b. 3 is formed, and a liquid crystal 4 is injected therebetween and sealed with a sealing material 5 to form a liquid crystal display element 6. Further, a plurality of metal wirings 7 are formed on the lower glass substrate 2 to be connected to the display electrodes 3, and these metal wirings T include L for driving the liquid crystal (not shown).
A bonding pad 8 is provided for connecting the SI element. Further, these metal wirings T are arranged in parallel at a constant distance from the edge of the glass substrate 2 except for the area around the LSI element mounting portion 90. In addition,
An LSI element (not shown) will later be placed in this LSI element mounting portion 9 and connected to each bonding pad 8 by wire bonding.

According to such a configuration, as shown in FIG. 2, the connection terminals 1 are arranged on the edge at the same arrangement pitch as the metal arrangement ttsr in FIG.
A liquid crystal driving circuit element 12 is mounted on the wiring board 11 on which the circuit element 0 is formed.
The nine circuit boards 13 are mounted on the glass substrate 2 shown in FIG.
The liquid crystal display element 6 is driven by the circuit board 13 by electrically connecting it to the metal wiring T formed above using a connecting means such as an anisotropic conductive sheet, a heat seal, a zebra connector, or metal solder. be able to. Therefore, if the 7JLSI element mounted on the glass substrate 2 breaks down, it can be easily repaired. Nine, one type of wiring board 1
1, various types of liquid crystal driving circuit elements 12 can be mounted and various parts of a failed LSI element can be repaired, so expandability can be improved.

In addition, in the above-mentioned embodiment, the arrangement of the metal wiring T is as follows:
It is not limited to the wiring pattern shown in the ta1 diagram (
As shown in FIG. 3, even in a wiring pattern having metal wiring 7' to which only adjacent LSI elements are connected, the same effect as described above can be obtained.
