Decorating the periphery of a mirror with pictures, letters, etc. enhances the design effect of the mirror, and various decorations have been tried depending on the type and purpose of the mirror. Conventionally, methods for applying patterns, letters, etc. to mirrors include painting on a transparent resin layer formed on the glass surface, and painting with ink containing dye and thermosetting resin, followed by firing. However, the patterns obtained by either method are inferior in physical properties such as surface hardness, boiling water resistance, and chemical resistance, and have the drawback of being abraded or peeled off when the mirror is used. Also, a method of painting with pigments and firing has been considered, and although this method improves the above-mentioned drawbacks, it also has the disadvantage that the number of pigment colors is small and the patterns and letters formed are opaque. Due to this limitation, it was inferior in decorativeness.

As the glass substrate 1, one used for ordinary mirrors is used. An active film layer 2 made of at least one of activated alumina and activated silica is formed on the surface of the glass substrate 1. This active film layer 2 may be provided all around the glass surface, or may be provided only on a part of the periphery.

To form the active membrane layer 2, colloidal alumina, colloidal silica, or a mixture of both is applied, dried, and then heated at, for example, 350°C to 850°C for 10 minutes to
Just bake it for 180 minutes. The active film layer 2 thus obtained is transparent and has a large number of active micropores, and can adsorb the dye 3.
Moreover, this layer is also an excellent surface layer with a surface hardness of 9H or more on a pencil hardness.

When the dye 3 is adsorbed onto the active film layer 2, a pattern or a character 6 is expressed. For this purpose, after painting with ink containing heat transferable dye,
Heating may be performed at a temperature such that the heat-transferable dye is thermally transferred into the micropores. Examples of such dyes include disperse dyes, oil-soluble dyes, basic dyes, and metal-containing dyes. dyed. The dyed patterns and characters 6 have good adsorption of the dye 3 of the active film layer 2, and therefore have excellent boiling water resistance and chemical resistance. In addition, as a means of painting, there are a screen printing method, a transfer printing method, a hand-drawing method, and the like.

A mirror surface 5 is formed on the back surface of the glass substrate 1 by a conventional method such as a vapor deposition method, a sputtering method, or a chemical plating method. The mirror surface 5 may be formed on the entire back surface of the glass substrate 1, but does not necessarily need to be formed on the peripheral portion.

In the decorative mirror of the present invention, matte layers 4, 14, 24 are provided on the front and back surfaces of the glass substrate 1 or on the active film layer 2.
By providing this, a mirror with even better decorative effects can be obtained. That is, when the matte layer 4 is provided on the periphery of the glass substrate 1, the pattern and letters 6 are also formed on the matte layer 4, so that the matte pattern and letters 6 are obtained (see Fig. 3). ). Further, when the matte layer 14 is provided on the surface of the active film layer 2, the dye 3 adsorbed on the active film layer 2 is ground by the matte processing, and the matte layer 14 has a matte pattern as a so-called punched pattern. (See Figure 4). In addition, when the matte layer 24 is provided on the back side of the glass substrate 1, the matte layer 2 is applied to the glossy pattern and the letters 6.
The 4's can be seen overlapping each other, creating a deep pattern (see Figure 5). Furthermore, by appropriately combining the three types of matte layers 4, 14, and 24, it is possible to obtain attractive patterns and letters 6 (see FIG. 6). The matte layers 4, 14, and 24 may be formed by sand-plast processing or matte processing using a mold.

Since the present invention is a decorative mirror with the above-mentioned structure, the patterns, characters, etc. have excellent physical properties such as surface hardness, boiling water resistance, and chemical resistance, and because dyes can be used, there is a wide variety of colors available. Transparent patterns, letters, etc. can be obtained, and it has excellent decorative properties. Furthermore, by appropriately combining the matte layers, each can express a unique design effect, and is expected to be widely used.
