Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of a dictionary memory by converting patterns of respective ruled lines in a character area in which plural ruled lines intersect into bit information and operating patterns formed by these ruled lines. CONSTITUTION:When ruled line data is inputted from a keyboard 2, said data is stored in a video ram 4 and displayed on a CRT5. When ruled lines of large diameter are drawn in the same direction in this way, they are stored in the ram 4 as they are. When vertical small diameter ruled lines are drawn in different directions, they intersect old large diameter ruled lines. A pattern recognizing section 8 detects intersection of lines of different diameters, calls out old ruled line data in the same character unit from the ram 4, converts the data into bit information, and outputs to a temporary memory 11 through a ruled line synthesizing device 9. On the other hand, new ruled lines that generate intersection input bit information to the device 9 and add to bit information of old ruled lines stored in the device 11. This bit information is converted to a ruled line pattern expressed in a conversion table 10 and stored in the ram 4. Thus, ruled lines of unified diameter are stored.
