Abstract

PURPOSE:To collate securely a person himself by providing a set of a converting circuit, an input circuit and a collation circuit on plural terminal devices and a memory device on a center device, respectively, and by linking these terminal devices with the center device through a communication circuit. CONSTITUTION:An input device 11 of, for instance, a terminal 20-1 generates a photoelectric transfer pictureof a fingerprint pattern by means of a light source and an image pickup device such as an ITV by utilizing optical boundary conditions of glass. When digital two-dimensional quantized picture data is stored in a memory 13, a center 17 decodes Ic codes obtained by depressing a key 15. Accordingly, information regarding fingerprint feature points and the relation between them readout from a file 14 is held in a working memory 103 in a terminal through the center 17. Here, a collating device 10 properly matches a fingerprint pattern stored in the memory 13 to the feature point group and the relation read out from the file 14. The successful matching and unsuccessful matching are dicided to be coincident and dissident, respectively.

Lu Personal verification systems that identify individuals are broadly divided into two types: access control and transaction control. In the former, when you want to enter a specific area, instead of using a key, you enter the personal identification number (ID number) given to each person using a keyboard or card, and check it against the ID number registered in advance at the center. This is a method to check the identity of an individual. The latter type of transaction management is used for commercial transactions by banks and so-called credit cards, and is a method in which files are checked, updated, etc. after confirming the identity of an individual using the same method as access management.

However, none of the above systems is perfect, and accidents such as unauthorized use are occurring frequently, especially with the recent increase in credit transactions. Therefore, a more reliable and low-cost identity verification method is required.

When the digital two-dimensional quantized image data obtained in this way is stored in the memory 13, the center 17 decodes the ID code obtained by pressing the keyboard 15 and uses this as the address of the file 14. File 1
Information regarding the fingerprint minutiae (endpoints, branching points) and the relations between minutiae points read from 4 is stored in the working memory 103 in the terminal via the center 17. A plurality of fingerprint features exist in one fingerprint, as shown in FIGS. 2(a) and 2(b), with the position (XSY) of the feature point M and the relationship R1 to R4 with neighboring feature points in the pattern direction D1. This is a list representation of feature points M, as shown in Figure (a).
is an example of a fingerprint, and FIG. 3(b) shows the concept of a list. Detailed definitions and extraction methods are described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 138174/1983.

Referring to FIG. 4, a local pattern 41 on the image memory corresponding to the position of the feature point 40 read out from the file 14 is scanned by a plurality of scans 411 orthogonal to the feature point direction with the feature point position as the origin, ...412.413.414

2.423, ..., 426. The feature points (endpoints in the example) 43 are discovered by matching the pattern edges associated with the dotted lines of each image data. Also,
The feature direction is determined by averaging the matching angles of pattern edges. Feature points 43 discovered in this way
and 40 are held as candidate corresponding points based on their positional displacement and direction difference. Candidate corresponding points are obtained in the same manner for neighboring feature points that are related to this feature point by relations in the feature point list. Next, as shown in FIG. 5, the fingerprint pattern line 53 on the connecting line for the two neighboring minutiae points 51 and 52 is Yi as shown in FIG.
It is counted as =3 and checked against the list.
