Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the deformation of plastic substrates and the generation of abnormal optical anisotropy during the course of production by interposing plastic beads between press plates and thin plastic film substrates in the stage of pasting two sheets of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:Many micro-plastic beads 5 are spread between press plates 4, 4 and plastic film substrates 1, 1. The tight contact between the plates 4, 4 and the two substrates 1, 1 is obviated by such beads intervened therebetween. The substrates 1, 1 are kept free from partial stressing even if the substrates are heated to cure a sealant 2. Generation of curling, waving and abnormal anisotropy of the substrates 1, 1 is thus obviated by which the good display quality is obtd.

<Prior art> In the manufacturing process of liquid crystal display elements, in which two thin plastic film substrates are bonded together and liquid crystal is filled between the two substrates, a sealing material is applied to the periphery between the two thin plastic film substrates. At the same time as printing, it was necessary to disperse spacers over the entire surface of the gap and then press the two thin plastic film substrates from both sides using a press plate.

However, conventionally, a glass plate with a smooth surface is used as the press plate, so the plastic film substrate and the glass plate are in close contact with each other. When heating was performed, stress was applied between the parts of the plastic film substrate and the glass substrate that were in close contact with each other and the parts that were not in close contact with each other due to thermal expansion of the plastic film substrate. As a result, curls and ridges occurred in the plastic film substrate, and abnormal optical anisotropy occurred in the plastic film substrate itself, resulting in display defects in the liquid crystal display element.

<Purpose> The purpose of this invention is to eliminate the above-mentioned conventional drawbacks, and to improve the display quality of liquid crystal display elements by preventing deformation of plastic substrates and occurrence of abnormal optical anisotropy during the manufacturing process. <Example> Hereinafter, an example of the method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display element according to the present invention will be described in detail using drawings. The drawings show manufacturing steps of an example of the method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display element according to the present invention. FIG. In the figure, 1.1 is a thin plastic film substrate with a thickness of about 0.1 tra. These two thin plastic film substrates 1, 1
A sealing material 2 is printed on the periphery between the two, and spacers 3 such as glass fibers are dispersed over the entire surface of the gap. 4.4 is the above two thin plastic film substrates 1
.. This is a press glass plate for pressing 1 from both sides. A large number of minute plastic beads 5 (

4 and the two thin plastic film substrates 1, 1 are not in close contact with each other. Therefore, even if heating is performed to harden the sealing material 2 between the plastic film substrates 1, 1 in the pressed state, no local stress is applied within the plastic film substrates 1, 1. Therefore, curls, ridges, and abnormal optical anisotropy do not occur in the plastic film substrates 1, 1. Therefore, good display quality can be obtained.
