Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent bubbling inside a cell and to enhance reliability by heat drying a resin film base before filling liquid crystals and degassing the base in high vacuum to remove solvent components remaining inside the resin. CONSTITUTION:The resin film of a base is heated to about 130 deg.C and dried before forming a transparent electrode and/or immediately before filling liquid crystals to degas it in vacuum. Such treatment of said resin film permits various kinds of residual solvent components and adsorbed moisture and gases, etc. remaining in the film to be removed. As a result, bubbling in a cell can be prevented and reliability can be enhanced.

However, in conventional film liquid crystal display elements, bubbles tend to occur inside the cells, making it impossible to obtain stable reliability. The present inventors have discovered that the cause of this is various residual solvent components contained inside the resin film that is the substrate.

The procedure for creating a film liquid crystal display element is to prepare two resin films such as polyacrylic or polyester, form transparent electrodes on their inner surfaces, and then form an inorganic or organic liquid crystal alignment film on top of them. A Knoll material is printed on the periphery of the resin film, the two resin films are bonded together, and then the gap between the two resin films is filled with liquid crystal. Here, before forming transparent electrodes on the inner surface of the resin film and/or immediately before injecting/filling the liquid crystal, the resin film is dried by heating to about 130°C and degassed under high vacuum (about 10 to 10 Torr). vacuum). When various residual solvent components in the resin film as well as moisture, gas, etc. were removed by this treatment, the bubble generation rate of the reliability aging of the film liquid crystal display element was as follows.
