PURPOSE:To enable a work roll to perform bending and to reduce edge drops by applying a force of rolling direction to the rolling-contact surface at the axial ends of work roll and applying a bending force to the work roll by the component of said force. CONSTITUTION:Horizontal forces produced by cylinders 11 are transmitted to rolling bearings 8, 9 arranged at the rolling-contact surfaces of the axial ends of a pair of work rolls 1, 1. The bearings 8 contact only the upper roll 1, and the bearings 9 contact only the lower roll 1. Then a bending force is provided to the rolls 1, 1 by the wedge effects caused by the forces acting opposingly in the horizontal direction across a line which connects the axes of rolls 1, 1 to each other, to make the roll bending possible.
