Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent reflected light from entering eyes directly by providing a display device slantingly at a specific angle and providing a hood so that the surface of the display device is not seen directly from an eye range. CONSTITUTION:Metal such as aluminum is vapor-deposited thinnly on the internal surface of a frontwindow 1 and a silicon oxide is further vapor-deposited as a projection film to form a light transmittive mirror part 1a. The display device 2 consisting of a TN type liquid-crystal display element such as a speedometer slants at about 90 deg. to the plane of the light transmittive mirror part 1a and a dashboard 5 forms a hood part 5a which extends to above the line (alternate long and two short dashes line) connecting the upper end of the display surface of the display device 2 and the upper end of the eye range 3. Some of light components reflected by the light transmittive mirror part 1a of the windshield 1 as to light from the display device 2 travel through the path shown by solid lines as shown by an arrow to reach the eye range 3, and a reflected image of the display pattern on the display device 2 is viewed in such a direction that the light transmittive mirror part 1a is seen from the eye range 3.

Conventionally, there has been a device of this type as shown in FIG. In the figure, 1 is a translucent mirror 1a made of aluminum vapor deposition, etc.
2 is an indicator such as a speedometer emitted from a liquid crystal display element, 3 is an eye range where the driver's eyes are normally located, and 4a and 4b are external lights such as the sun or outside lights. . 5 is a dash &-y. The display surface of the display device 2 is arranged such that the dash is substantially parallel to the upper surface of the hand 5. That is, the display surface of the display device 2 forms an angle of approximately 40 to 50 degrees with the surface of the translucent mirror 18 of the front window 1.

As a result, the reflected image of the display butter y on the display device 2 can be visually recognized from the eye range 3 in the direction in which the translucent mirror portion 1a is viewed. However, in such a conventional device, when there is external light 4a such as the sun, it enters the display surface of the display device 2 through the front window 1 and is reflected, and a part of the external light is reflected by the translucent mirror 1a of the front window 1. The light is reflected by the light beam and reaches the eye range 3 via a path as shown by the dotted line in FIG. 1, which overlaps with the display light, making the display very difficult to see. Furthermore, when there is external light 4b, much of the light that enters the display surface of the display device 2 through the front window 1 is reflected and directly reaches the eye range 3 through a path as shown by the broken line in FIG. However, even if this light does not overlap with the reflected image of the display/IP turn, a bright spot will be generated near the reflected image of the display/IP turn, making the display very difficult to see as in the case described above. There was a drawback.

This invention was made in order to eliminate the drawbacks of the conventional ones as described above, and by specifying the setting angle of the display and arranging a predetermined hood, visibility deteriorates depending on the position of external light. It is an object of the present invention to provide a head-up display device that can prevent this and significantly improve visibility.

In one embodiment of the present invention having the above configuration, a part of the light component (display light) of the light emitted from the display device 2 reflected by the translucent mirror portion 1a of the front window 1 is shown in FIG. The eye range 3 is reached by following the route shown by the solid line and the arrow mark. As a result, the reflected image of the display pattern on the display 2 can be visually recognized from the eye range 3 in the direction in which the translucent mirror portion 1a is viewed. In this case, since the display surface of the display device 2 is tilted at an angle of about 90 degrees with respect to the surface of the light-transmitting mirror 18, external light incident through the front window 1 can be seen on the display surface. Since it does not enter the translucent mirror portion 1a after being reflected, there is no possibility of overlapping shadows on the translucent mirror portion la surface due to part of the external light entering the display light, which occurs with conventional devices. does not occur. In addition, since the hood part 5a is provided so that the display surface of the display device 2 cannot be seen from the eye range 3, the reflected light of external light that has entered the display surface of the display device 2 through the front window 1 is directly directed to the eye range 3. can be prevented from reaching.

In the above embodiment, the transparent mirror portion 1a is provided by vapor deposition on a part of the front window 1, but another material having the function of the transparent mirror portion 1a may also be attached. good. Further, such a translucent mirror portion 1a may be provided separately from the front window 1. Further, the display device 2 is preferably a liquid crystal display because it is a low power consumption type and is a passive display element, but it may also be a fluorescent display tube, a cathode ray tube, or the like. Furthermore, it goes without saying that such a heads-up display device may be applied to aircraft, trains, etc. in addition to the above-mentioned automobiles.

As described above, according to the present invention, the display is tilted at a specific angle, and at the same time, a hood is provided so that the display surface cannot be seen directly from the eye range. This prevents the reflection of external light from overlapping the reflected image of the display pattern, and also prevents the direct reflection of light from the display surface from entering the eye, making it possible to obtain a display with significantly improved visibility. It has a great effect.
