Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は内燃機関用触媒コンバータ特に/\ニカム触奴
担体を用いたモノリス型触媒コン/ヘータに関する。
この種の触媒コンへ−夕は、ステンレススチールメンシ
ュで成形した保持部材または発泡マット(例えば米国3
M社製の商品名インクラムマットと呼ばれるセラミンク
ウール)で触媒担体をくるみ、半径方向に二分割したケ
ースに端部シール部材ど共に収容してその割型ケースを
突き合せ面で溶接して一体結合する(特開昭57−21
2319号、同5B−2412号公報参照)。
一方ハニカム触媒担体は、5i02 ・An、03・M
gOを主成分とする一体燃成品であって、耐衝撃性に欠
は脆く破損し易い。また仕」−り」“法精度が非常にラ
フである。例えば直径65mmの円形担体においての寸
法直径のバラツキは2mm強、短径65mmX長径13
0mmの長円形相体においては短長径のバラツキ各4.
mm強である。
従って突き合せ面で締め代が一定している従来の割型ケ
ースに装填する場合、大寸法担体に対しては締め荷重が
過大になって担体を破損し、小寸法担体の場合は締め荷
重が不足して緩保打装填となり、振動により破損するお
それがある。従って触媒コンバータとしての機能を十分
に発揮し得ない欠点かある。
そのために、担体側々の寸法を測り、保形部材・7−ル
材を増減して上記の一定の締め荷重が、何れの担体に対
しても過不足なく適正に印加されるような組立工数を必
要とし、量産に支障がある。
本発明は、」、記の問題点を解決することを目的とする
もので、触媒担体を保形部材・シーJし材を添えて収容
すべき半割型ケースの合せ面を内外嵌合面とし、予め設
定した一定荷重を割型ケースに加えた状態において、割
型ケースを溶着したことを要旨とするものである。
上記の構成にすると 触媒担体に対する最大荷重(破壊
荷重)、保形部材・シール材に対する最適荷重を予め実
測により設定して定荷重とすることによって、前記の寸
法バラツキは割型ケースの嵌り込み深さによって吸収調
整され、担体を破壊させず目、つ充分にシールされた品
質の揃った製品が常に得られることになる。
従って前記のように、製造に当り個々について締め代を
判断する工程を要しないで品質が一定する。またすべて
適正な緊締荷重で構成されているから、自動車・オート
バイに適用した場合実走後においても安定した品質が得
られ、耐久性がある。
図面に示す実施例について説明すると、if図はエンジ
ンの排気系lに触媒コン/へ一部2を接続した例、第2
図は触媒コンバータ2の一部截断正面図で2a・2bは
半割型ケースで、その合せ面は第3図20・2dのよう
に内外嵌合させる。dはその外側合せ面2cの内側段部
と内側合一;を面2dの端辺との間の締め代、3はハニ
カム触媒、4は保形部材、5はシール部材、6は溶接個
所である。
ケース2a・2bに予め設定された一定荷重を加えると
、内容物3・4・5に若干の大きさ誤差があっても、そ
の誤差は合せ面2c・2dの嵌り込み深さで吸収され、
内容物には一定締め付は荷重か印加される。その状態を
保持したままケース2a・2bをその合せ面で溶接6す
る。
第4図のように外側合せ面2Cと一体に耳2eを設け、
例えば防護網等のインシュレータ7を取伺けることもあ
る。
第1〜4図は横断面長円形とし、そのケース2a・2b
の両端部を絞って損気管との接続部2fを構成した例で
ある。
第5・6図の例はオートバイ用排気系に本発明を実施す
るのに適する構成を例示する。割型ケース20a・20
bを半円筒形とし、その両端にそのケースの外面径より
も大径の取付用短筒8を形成し、その短筒8の嵌合する
内径の外筒9に割型ケース20aI+20bを外筒との
間に間隙13をおいて納め、短筒8を外筒9に溶接14
等の手段で固着したものである。
オートパイの場合は軍全体の設計、外観上からの11ノ
]約で、消音器の中に触媒コンへ−夕を組込むのが71
通である。第5・6図はその趣旨で構成されたもので、
9は消音器、8・8は仕切板、13・13a・13bは
膨張室(消音室)に相当し、その中央の消音室13の中
に触媒コンへ−夕を上記のように組込み、外筒の表面焼
け・熱害・耐性等を考慮した構成である。
第7図は前記の内向きフランジ8aと触媒担体3の端面
との間にクッション材12を挾んだ実施例である。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 1 、 ゛l’径力向方向分割した割型ケースの合せ面
    を内外嵌合面とし、触媒担体に保形部材・シール旧を汐
    わせて収容し、割型ケースに一定荷重を加えた状態にお
    いてその合せ面で割型ケースを溶接して−・体結合した
    触媒コンバータ。 2、半径方向に二分割した割型ケースの合せ面を内外嵌
    合面とし、触媒担体に保形部材・シール材を添わせて収
    容し、割型ケースに一定荷重を加えた状7E’、におい
    てその合せ面で割型ケースを溶接して一体結合し、上記
    割型ケースの両端部にそのケースの外径よりも大径の取
    付用短筒を形成し、その知油を外筒に嵌合させて固着し
    、外筒とケースとの間に空間を形成した触媒コンバータ
