Abstract

PURPOSE:To extract the medicinal substance completely from the leaves of Sasa albo-marginata, by drying and cutting the raw leaves of the vegetable into fine pieces, immersing in water, boiling the water to concentrate the water-soluble substances, adding another concentrated liquid prepared in the similar manner as above, boiling the mixture at a specific temperature, separating the supernatant liquid from the product, and boiling and concentrating the liquid. CONSTITUTION:Raw leaves of Sasa albo-marginata are dried and cut to fine pieces. The cut leaves are immersed in water in a pan to effect the dissolution of the water- soluble substances, and the solution is concentrated to a proper extent by boiling to obtain the first concentrated liquid. Another concentrated liquid is prepared in a similar manner as the above process, and is mixed with a small amount of the first concentrated liquid. The mixture is heated for 6-12hr until the temperature reaches 120- 160 deg.C, mixed with warm water, and boiled. The supernatant liquid is separated from the product, concentrated by boiling, and cooled to precipitate the objective medicinal component. The precipitate has a molecular weight of >=10,000, and 30% of which is determined mainly as the polysaccharide of formula (galacturonic acid). The medicinal component containing said saccharide can be extracted more completely by this process.
