Abstract

PURPOSE:To narrow the width between the left and right side running parts of a chain by an arrangement wherein a pair of cam shafts mounted on the upper part of an engine body are connected by means of the chain with a crankshaft mounted on the lower part of the engine body. CONSTITUTION:An engine body 1 comprises a crankshaft 2 mounted on the lower part thereof and a pair of front and rear cam shafts 3 mounted on the upper part thereof for air intake and exhaust system. Located between both the cam shafts 3 and somewhat under them is an intermediate shaft 4 having a common gear 6 engaging with gears 5 thereof and which is connected by a chain 7 with a crankshaft 2. This construction enables the whole width of the chain 7 including the shaft 4 to be narrowed relatively.
