Generally, in electrostatic recording devices, corona charging is performed on a drum or belt with a photoconductor layer on the surface, and then light exposure is performed to form a latent charge, or a drum with a dielectric layer is formed on the drum or belt. An ion flow is formed on the belt using an ion control method.

The photoconductor I@ for forming these latent images or the drum or belt provided with the dielectric layer serves as an image carrier and receives the toner σ) supply using the well-known electron beam method. It becomes visible as a skeleton. This great carrier top-11t
The toner is transferred onto the i-transfer sheet, and after the transfer of the toner is completed, the residual toner is wiped off from the Kyuso carrier in preparation for the next bone formation. There is a cleaning method using roller cleaning as a method for wiping off residual toner on the carrier. The present invention relates to improvements to this roller cleaning device.

A roller cleaning device cleans the image carrier,
A roller with a rough surface, for example a roller made of foamed resin, etc. is used, and this roller 2 is rotated in the opposite direction to the moving direction of the image carrier to scrape off the residual toner on the image carrier. It is no longer possible to clean the image carrier by bringing it into contact with the image carrier.

The present inventors have conducted extensive research on a Row 2 cleaning device using foamed resin. That is, various experimental samples were prepared regarding the material, elasticity, average cell (foam hole) size, number of cells per unit area, etc. of the foamed resin, and cleaning experiments were conducted. As a result, it was found that within a certain range limited by the number of cells (the number of cells per 11 nch), the toner adhering to the image bearing member was successfully cleaned by cleaning 0-2;
It has been discovered that toner that has migrated onto the surface is also easily removed. When the number of cells is small, the toner is so small that it creeps into the cells, and if cleaning is performed for a long time, it becomes difficult to remove the toner, reducing cleaning efficiency and shortening the replacement cycle.
