Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove basic gases in a gas selectively by using a nonvolatile acid supported on titania, zirconia or carborundum.
CONSTITUTION: A nonvolatile acid is supported on a carrier consisting of titania, zirconia or carborundum. As the nonvolalile acid, those acids which have vapor pressures of about 10mmHg or below at 50°C, for example, organic acids such as sulfuric acid, boric acid, phosphoric acid, hypophosphoric acid, etc. and organic acids such as oxalic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, etc. can be used, particularly preferable acids being sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and tartaric acid. The amount of the nonvolatile acid supported on the carrier is 0.5W40wt% (particularly, 2W25wt%) based on the weight of the carrier. The acid is supported on the carrier by immersing the carrier in an aqueous solution of the acid, or spraying the solution onto the carrier, followed by drying.
