Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the overcurrent of the internal part of a unit cell that flows when the electric current of the unit cell is interrupted, by connecting a variable resistor in parallel to at least one of the unit cells of electrolytic cells which are connected in series. CONSTITUTION:Connecting terminals 5 of a variable resistor 1 are connected to both ends of at least one unit cell 10 of electrolytic cells which are connected in series, while the switches 4 of the resistor 1 are held open. The current flowing in the cell 10 is decreased by closing the switches 4 by each one. Next, the current flowing in the cell 10 is increased by opening the switches 4 by each one. By ths above-mentioned method, the flow of surge current to the unit cell 10 is prevented in the case of exchanging the cell 10 under operation with rated current.
