Abstract
PURPOSE:To lower bath voltage and extend the life of electrodes by dividing an electrolytic cell to an anode chamber of low internal pressure and a cathode chamber of high internal pressure by means of a cation exchange membrane and making the thickness of the active coating on the front surface of a perforated flat plate anode and the side faces of its holes larger than that of the rear surface. CONSTITUTION:An electrolytic cell using an aq. soln. of alkali metal chloride as electrolyte is divided to an anode chamber of low internal pressure and a cathode chamber of high internal pressure by means of a cation exchange membrane. The thickness of the anode active coating on the front surface of a perforated flat plate anode and the side surfaces of its holes is made larger than that of the anode active coating on the rear surface. By the above-mentioned method, the electric current density in the cation exchange membrane is made uniform, bath voltage is lowered and the life of the electrodes is extended.
