PURPOSE:To obtain a device capable of detecting the center position of a body to be measured which has constant width with high precision by generating an electric signal at the zero point of a signal obtained by differentiating an output signal from a hpotoelectric readout member. CONSTITUTION:An output signal SG1 from a photoelectric readout member 20, which has a readout visual field L nearly as wide as a body 12 to be measured and generates the signal SG1 when the body 12 to be measured enters into and exits from the visual field L, is inputted to a differentiating circuit 42 to output a differential signal SG3 which varies from a positive to a negative level or a negative to a positive level. Then, a signal generating circuit consisting of a comparator circuit 46 which has, for example, hysteresis, monostable multivibrator circuit 52 and 55, etc., outputs an electric signal SG7 nearly at the zero point where the differential signal SG3 varies from the positive to the negetive or the negative to the positive point.
