Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the starting characteristic and the performance in a low speed range of an engine, by using a starter motor as an additional drive source for an engine driven supercharger, and by controlling engagement of a clutch coupled to a drive shaft in association with the drive condition of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: A stater motor 6 as an additional drive source is operated and therefore, a drive shaft 13 is rotated with an engine 6 being started, when a stater switch 7 is turned-on to close a magnet switch 9. An electro-magnetic clutch 14 is not yet energized and therefore a supercharger 4 does not operate, since a thermosensitive switch 16 is opened at a hogh temperature of the engine 1, but the switch 16 is closed when the temperature of the engine 1 is lowered, so that the supercharger is driven, thereby the starting characteristic is enhanced. Even if the magnet switch 9 is opened when the starter switch 7 is opened after the engine 1 is started, the starter motor 7 is energized through a free switch 20 which is closed by a core 19 moved back due to the energization of a magnet 17, so that the supercharger 4 continues to operate. The thermosensitive switch 16 is opened when the temperature of the engine 1 becomes high, thereby the starter motor 6 makes to a stop.
