Abstract

PURPOSE: A high-molecular dispersant is added to an aqueous medium free from hard-soluble inorganic substances and a specific foam regulator is added thereto, then the suspension polymerization of a styrene monomer is conducted in the resultant medium to produce the titled particles giving moldings with high strength and surface smoothness and shortened ageing time as well.
CONSTITUTION: In an aqueous medium free from hard-soluble inorganic substance, containing (A) a water-soluble high molecular dispersant such as partially saponified PVA by 1×10-4W1wt%, based on (B) the polymer particles to be produced, a styrene monomer is subjected to suspension polymerization to produce resin particles. Then, at an appropriate stage in the polymerization process, preferably at the stage when the polymerization conversion exceeds 50%, (C) an alkyl phosphate ester as a foaming regulator is added by 1×10-4W1wt%, based on the particles B and the polymerization is effected to produce the particles B. Further, (D) an organic foaming agent such as propane is added to the polymerization system to give the objective particles.
