Abstract

PURPOSE: To uniformly form a metallic oxide coat on the whole surface of each glass body by forming an electrostatic field between the electrode of an electrostatic coating device and the glass body during coating.
CONSTITUTION: The molded glass bottles 1 are conveyed with a conveyor 2 in hot state. When each of the bottles 1 passes by an electrostatic coating device 11, it is coated with SnCl4 vapor by blowing. At this time, a high voltage is generated from an electrostatic high voltage generator 14. The negative pole is connected to the electrode 20 of the device 11 through a high resistance 15, and the other pole is grounded. Bottles 1 are also grounded through the conveyor 2. Thus, an electrostatic field is formed between each of the hot bottles 1 and the electrode 20, and by the effect of the field, blowed SnCl4 is uniformly stuck to the backside of the bottle 1 as well as the front and side. The stuck SnCl4 is converted into an SnO2 coat by oxidation to enhance the abrasion resistance of the bottle 1.
