Abstract
PURPOSE:To stably manufacture a base material for an optical fiber with high reproducibility by connecting a reactor to a burner for flame hydrolysis set at a lower part of the reactor with a rubberlike elastic body to tightly seal the gap and make the burner movable. CONSTITUTION:In order to prevent air from being sucked into a reactor 6 from the gap 18 between a burner 1 and the reactor 6, the reactor 6 is connected to the burner 1 with a rubber tube 20 to tightly seal the gap 18. Since the tube 20 is an elastic body, the burner 1 can be easily moved in X, Y and Z directions and set at the optimum position. By this method, during the deposition of a porous glass base material 2, external disturbance such as inflow of air is not caused, so the base material 2 of high quality can be stably manufactured with high reproducibility.
