Abstract

A fibre filter (1) for the elimination of fine mists from gases comprises coated glass fibres wherein the coating is obtained by polymerisation in situ of a fluorosilane having at least one terminal perfluorocarbon group of at least five carbon atoms and at least one silane group. The coated fibres preferably are mixtures of coated fibres of different diameters in the range 5 to 50 microns and the coating is produced on the fibres before or after their assembly into the filter, for example by applying the fluorosilane and heating the fibres at 100 DEG C to 150 DEG C. The filter may be irrigated in use. <IMAGE>
