Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the liquid-leakage resistance of a small sealed battery, which is sealed by attaching an annular gasket to a battery can, by dividing the process of drawing and curl formation into two stages, and performing the former curl formation in the first stage. CONSTITUTION:After a generation element is placed in a battery can 1 made of metal, a dish-like sealing member 3 is placed over the generation element, with a sealing gasket 2 interposed between the can 1 and the member 3, to seal the battery, and the whole constitutes a battery. The sealing gasket 2 is attached to a peripheral part 3a of the member 3 before the member 3 is placed over the generation element. In sealing the battery, the bent part of the can 1 is drawn, and an end 1b of an opening periphery 1a of the can 1 is inwardly curved for subjecting the can 1 to curl formation. Here, after the end 1b of the opening periphery 1a is inwardly curved for performing curl formation, the bent part of the can 1 is subjected to drawing so as to compress the gasket 2 in the direction of its diameter, thereby performing the sealing of the can 1.
