Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hydrophobic catalyst of high activity by mixing polytetrafluoroethylene and polycarbomonofluoride in an aqueous dispersion state then granulating, stretching and baking the mixture and depositing catalyst components thereon.
CONSTITUTION: Polytetrafluoroethylene and polycarbomonofluoride of 150W 600m2/g specific surface areas are uniformly mixed in an aqueous dispersion state, thence a water-insoluble org. solvent is added thereto, and the mixture is granulated; further a liquid lubricant is added and the mixture is extrusion- molded and stretched. Thereafter, it is sintered to a porous body, which is cut suitably, after which catalytic components of periodic table group 8 elements or the like are deposited thereon, whereby the hydrophobic catalyst is obtained. This catalyst is highly active and hydrophobic and has therefore wide applications.
