Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a hydrophobic catalyst with satisfactory strength, by supporting a catalytic metal as a hydrophobic catalyst for the oxidation on a carrier consisting of polycarbon monofluoride and polytetrafluoroethylene.
CONSTITUTION: As a hydrophobic catalyst for the oxidation of hydrogen, or oxygen contg. compd, or the like, is used a catalyst obtained by supporting a catalytic metal of a Group VIII element of the Periodic Table such as platinum or rubidium on a carrier obtained by dispersing polycarbon monofluoride with specific surface area of 150W400M2/g into porous polytetrafluoroethylene comprising knots mutually connected by fine fibers. Because this catalyst uses a hydrophobic support with large specific surface area, it has high activity and high mechanical strength even in a reaction system involving water at room temp.
