Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce interferon having high titir, stably, by treating animal cells attached to and proliferated on micro-carrier with a solution containing glucocorticoid.
CONSTITUTION: Seed cells such as diploid cells are inoculated in a medium containing suspended micro-carrier and if necessary a proper concentration of blood serum, and cultured at a proper temperature under slow stirring. The surface of the micro-carrier is covered almost completely with the proliferated cells within about severalW10 days. Glucocorticoid (e.g. hydrocortisone) of concentration of usually 0.01W100μM is added to the medium suspended with the micro-carrier having attached and proliferated cells 72W6 hours before addition of an interferon-inducing agent. Thereafter, the interferon-inducing treatment is carried out by superinduction method or UV method. An interferon having high titer can be obtained stably by this process.
