PURPOSE:To improve snow detecting accuracy by varying the temperature of an electrode surface of a snow receiving plate in response to the strength of snow or a free air temperature. CONSTITUTION:Two electrodes 2 and 3 are attached on the surface of the snow receiving plate 1 which captures the snow so that a specified distance is provided and they face each other, and a heater 4 is attached to the bottom of the snow receiving plate 1. When the free air temperature is detected and it reaches the temperature below the estimated snow fall temperature, a snow fall judging signal is outputted from a temperature measuring device b. Power supply to the heater 4 is controlled by said signal. In this constitution, a small amount of the snow at the beginning of the snow fall and a large amount of the snow can be positively detected.
