Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent damage, such as deformation, occurring in a magnetic tape base by cutting an original roll of a magnetic tape by bringing the side of a magnetic metallic thin film into contact with a lower knife-edge. CONSTITUTION:An original roll 3 of a magnetic tape is cut to prescribed with while a magnetic metallic thin-film layer 5 is brought into contact with a lower knife-edge 2 forming a shearing type rotary knife-edge together with an upper knife-edge 1, thus forming a magnetic tape. This system reduces the occurrent of damage, such as deformation, of a plastic base 4 as compared with a system which brings the base 4 into contact with the knife-edge 2, thereby improving the electromagnetic conversion characteristics of the magnetic tape.
