Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the weight of an armature and to strengthen the connection of the part to be connected of the armature by connecting copper-base metallic member to the lead of a coil made of aluminum, and then connecting the metallic member to a commutator by an ultrasonic welding process. CONSTITUTION:A metallic member 9 made of copper or copper alloy is connected to the lead 8a of an armature coil 8 made of aluminum by a cladding process. A copper rod is engaged to the lead and may be connected by a method except the cladding process. The lead 8a is placed on the segment 11 of a commutator 10, and the segment 11 is welded to the metallic member 9 by an ultrasonic welding machine 12. In this manner, the armature can be reduced in weight and in cost with aluminum conductor, and the strength of the connecting part of the segment 11 can be enhanced.
