Abstract
PURPOSE: To make runners easily separable from castings of cast iron having high strength and high viscosity by inserting separating members forcibly into the runner parts of the molten metal injected into a mold before said parts solidify completely.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal is injected through a sprue 11 into a mold 8, and the mold is conveyed to the mounting position of a frame 15 by means of a roller conveyor 14. The frame 15 has bars 17 mounted with separating members 16 at the leading ends. The molten metal in the mold 8 cools and solidifies gradually, but just before the molten metal in runners 12 solidifies completely, or right after it solidifies, the members 16 are pressed and advanced through the notched parts 13, 13 of a weight 10 into green sand 9 by driving cylinders or the like. Since the molten metal in the runners 12 has no fluidity and its inside is not fully solidified, the runners 12 are easily broken by the force insertion of the members 16. The green sand 9 is still in the process of evaporation of moisture and is not yet hardened, and therefore the members 16 are easily force-inserted without giving any damage at all to the green sand mold 9.
