Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the transmission efficiency of a light beam by a method wherein the incidence angle of a semiconductor laser beam is formed as Brewster angle and the end surface of a prism is arranged to extend a beam diameter in the parallel direction to the P-N junction surface of the semiconductor laser. CONSTITUTION:A light beam L1 with a beam diameter of d1 emitted from a semiconductor laser 1 receives refractive (diffractive) action with refraction angle theta2 at a prism 4 and is produced as a light beam L2 with a beam diameter of d2. In the beam diameter d2, the ratio of air refractive index n1, and prism 4 refractive index n2, n2/n1, is selected higher than 1 and the beam diameter d2 can be made equal to a desired value, namely, the junction surface P of the light beam L1 emitted from the semiconductor laser 1, the beam diameter d0 in the vertical direction by properly setting the ratio. In this way, shaping to the light beam L1 emitted from the semiconductor laser 1 can be performed by one prism.
