CONSTITUTION:A photoreceptor 2 is charged positively (A) and then exposed (B) to reduce the charge of an exposed part (b) while the charge of an unexposed part (a) is held as it is. When development (C) is done with single-component magnetic toner, the toner sticks to the unexposed part (a) and some toner also sticks to the exposed part (b) as well. In this state, when the AC corona discharge (D) of the photoreceptor is performed, a much negative current flows into the photoreceptor of the unexposed part (a), so the potential of the photoreceptor falls and the toner is also charged negatively. Although the AC corona current of the exposed part (b) does not vary much, the photoreceptor surface charge is neutralized to neutralize the negative charge of the toner or to charge it positively. Consequently, the transfer characteristics of the unexposed part improve and those of the exposed part deteriorate.
