PURPOSE:To improve spectral sensitivity in a solid sample by using the light from a light source of the direction wherein it does not superpose on light reflected in the sample as light used for spectral analysis. CONSTITUTION:Excitation light from a light source 1 is made into monochromatic excitation light 4 with a spectroscope 3, and when this light 4 is irradiated to a solid sample 11, the sample emits fluorescence 7 of the wavelength specific to the molecules contained in the solid sample. After this fluorescence 7 is split with a spectroscope 8 via a mirror 19, the split light 9 is measured of intensity with a detector 10 for each of wavelengths, the from the distribution in these intensities, the fluorescence is spectrally analyzed and the material is determined. Thereby, the excitation light is detected together with the fluorescence released in the same direction after transmission through the sample, and since the reflection from the sample is not detected, the fluorescence is detected with high sensitivity.
