Abstract

PURPOSE:A mutant that is obtained by effecting mutagenic treatment to a strain of Arthrobacter-CA-35, and produces 3alpha,7alpha-dihydroxy-12-keto-5beta-cholanic acid or its salt using cholanic acid as a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A strain of Arthrobacter-CA-35 (FERM-5145) is subjected to a usual mutagenic treatment such as treatment with ultraviolet rays or a mutagen, to obtain the mutant that produce 3alpha,7alpha-dihydroxy-12-keto-5beta-cholanic acid and/or its salt in very high selectivity using cholanic acid as a substrate, such as Arthrobacter-CA-35-A589-29-32 strain (FERM-5522) or Arthrobacter-CA-35-A589-47 strain (FERM-5523).
