Abstract

PURPOSE:To avoid the printing defectives in the final part in an ink donor sheet for heat transfer recording made up of a light transmitting base paper coated with a hot melting solid ink by leaking the part near the final end of the base paper transparent coated with no ink. CONSTITUTION:A hot melting solid ink is applied on a transparent base paper 2B starting about 1m far from the final end thereof (initial winding section with a paper tube 1) to form an ink layer 2A and an ink donor sheet 2, which is wound around the paper tube 1 and used as a supply roll 3. The ink donor sheet 2 drawn from the roll 3 runs in the direction of the arrow A via a stress absorbing roll 7, a drive roll 8 and the like while a paper 6 feed rolls 4 and 5 is brought into contact with said sheet 2 between a thermal head 10 and a back roll 9 to print out on the paper 6. Here, as the sheet 2 approaches the end thereof, its approach is detected with a light emitting element 11 and a light receiving element 12 to alarm the replacement of the supply roll 3.
