Abstract
PURPOSE:To raise the transmission efficiency in case when the intensity of illumination is low, and to improve the image resolution in the horizontal and vertical directions, by injecting the bias charge of a horizontal transfer part into a charge accumulation part, before a signal charge of the charge accumulation part is transferred to the horizontal transfer part. CONSTITUTION:A signal charge which has been photoelectrically converted by a photodiode 102 placed in the form of matrix is read out to a vertical signal 105 by the first gate means 103, and this called signal charge is transferred to a charge accumulation part 109 by the second gate means 106. Also, the signal charge accumulated in the accumulation part 109 is transferred to a horizontal CCD113 constituted of a charge transfer element, by the third gate means 112. Also, the fourth gate means 117 for injecting a bias charge to the CCD13 being a signal readout part is provided, a driving circuit of a solid-state image pickup device is constituted, and before the signal charge of the accumulation part 109 is transferred to the CCD113, the bias charge of the CCD113 is injected into the accumulation part 109, the transmission efficiency in case when the intensity of illumination is low is raised, and the imae resolution in the horizontal and vertical directions is improved.
