Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform accurate measurement by detecting and processing the reflected waves wherein plural ultrasonic beams of mutually different natures are intersected at the specific points of a flow passage. CONSTITUTION:Probes A, B emit ultrasonic beams of mutually different natures by means of the outputs of transmission/reception amplifiers 1, 2 in such a way that they intersect with each other at angles which are not zero at the specific points of a flow passage 4 in an object to be examined of which the pipe diameter changes with time. The reception signals of the reflected waves taken out from the probes A, B are inputted via the amplifiers 1, 2 to pipe wall detecting parts 5, 6, and flow speed detecting parts 7, 8, the outputs whereof are inputted to a pipe wall cross sectional area calculating part 9 and an absolute flow speed calculating part 10. A flow rate calculating part 11 calculates flow rates in accordance with the outputs of these calculating parts.
