Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform welding easily and surely by bringing the end part of a stud pipe into abutment on the plane part of a welding base metal, enclosing the stud pipe with a ferrule, and welding these while forcibly feeding an inert gas into the stud pipe.
CONSTITUTION: One end of a stud pipe 1 is brought into contact with the plane part of a welding base metal 2, and a ferrule 3 in inserted onto the pipe 1 to enclose the pipe 1. In welding work, a stud gun is inserted onto the other end of the pipe 1, and the pipe 1 is connected to a supply source for an inert gas or mixed gases of the inert gas and active gas to feed the gases forcibly into the pipe 1. The gas is discharged through spatter discharge holes 4 of the ferrule 3. When the pipe 1 is lifted about several mm from the base metal 2, and electricity is conducted, an arc is generated between the pipe 1 and the base material 2 and both are welded.
