Abstract

PURPOSE: To make butt welding possible without causing burn-through in silicon steel sheets by welding the same with low electric current in an argon atmosphere contg. hydrogen in TIG welding of the sheets of silicon steel.
CONSTITUTION: In butt welding sheets 1a, 1b of silicon steel of 0.1W0.5mm thickness by a TIG welding method, a welding torch 3 having a tungsten electrode 4 at the center and consisting of an outside pipe 3a and an inside pipe 3b is used. Gaseous Ar 6 is supplied through the annular passage between the pipe 3a and the pipe 3b, and gaseous H2 7 is supplied through the pipe 6D and the electrode 4, whereby said sheets are welded with 5W20A welding current in a mixed gaseous atmosphere consisting of 5W9% H2 and the balance Ar. On account of small current, the occurrence of burn-through in the weld zone is obviated, and the sheets are welded with the stable arc by the above-mentioned atmosphere in spite of low current.
