Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare doped silica glass having a dopant concentration distribution in the radius direction controlled to the desired distribution, by jetting fine particles of doped silica glass having different feed amounts of doped solid solution from different feed openings respectively and reacting them. CONSTITUTION:The flow 46 of fine particles of highly-concentrated doped silica glass from the feed opening 42 of the synthetic torch 41 and the flow 45 of fine particles of low-concentration doped silica glass from the feed openings 43 and 43' are mixed and diffused each other in the flame flow 47 from the feed opening 44 and on the surface of the doped silica glass body 48 on the bearer 49, to form the glass body 48. A doped silica glass forming gas for making fine particles of doped silica glass of SiO2-dopant solid solution body contains a gaseous additive (e.g., GeCl4) capable of forming a dopant which is reacted with H2O give SiO2 and a solid solution body. The temperature of the above- mentioned treatment is 500-1,000 deg.C.
