Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve reliability by using water-soluble high polymer celluloses for a binder of a counter electrode molded by compaction. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 2 and display electrodes 3 are formed on a transparent glass substrate 1. Next, a counter electrode 6 is made by adding water-soluble high polymer celluloses such as sodium carboxymethylcellulose powder or the like to activated carbon powder, further adding pure water to pro vide adhesive effect, mixing these thoroughly and pressure molding the mixture. Next, part of the molding is broken and a titanium current collector of the core is exposed. A lead wire 7 of titanium is spot-welded to this, whereby the counter electrode is obtained. Electrolyte 9 is injected through an injection port 10. The electrochromic display device constituted in this way has increased response rates and higher reliability.
