Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a resin useful as a tackifier for rubber, a hot melt adhesiveness imparting agent or the like, by polymerizing an isoprene dimer-based oligomer solution with an unsaturated compound and further reacting the product with a phenol.
CONSTITUTION: A tackifying resin is produced by reacting a phenol with a polymer obtained by polymerizing, if necessary, a compound selected from the group consisting of a 4W6C aliphatic unsaturated hydrocarbon, an 8W12C aromatic unsaturated compound, and a 4W12C aliphatic unsaturated compound with a solution of an isoprene dimer-based oligomer obtained by contacting isoprene with a catalyst which is a combination consisting of a Ti compound of formula I or II, wherein X and Y are each a halogen or OR" group (in which R" is an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or a like group), an acetylacetonato or a like group and n is 1W4, a phosphorus compound of formula III or IV, wherein R is an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or a like group, an N-containing organic compound and an Al compound of formula V or VI, wherein R' is an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or a like group.
