Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a highly stereospecific olefin polymer, by using a catalyst system consisting of (A) a solid catalyst prepared by reacting titanium trichloride with a mixture of an organometallic compound having a metal of Groups IWIII, and an electron-donating compound and (B) an organoaluminum compound.
CONSTITUTION: Titanium trichloride is reacted with a mixture of an organometallic compound having a metal of Groups IWIII, such as LiAl(C2H5)4, Zn(C2H5)2 or Al(C2H5)3 and an electron-donating compound represented by one of formulas IWVII, wherein R, R' and R" are H, alkoxyl or amino or may be combined together to form a cyclic group or groups thereby to form the solid catalyst (A) (preferably, the reaction is carried out in an inert diluent). Then, the solid catalyst (A) is combined with (B) an organoaluminum compound represented by formula VIII, wherein R is a 1W8C hydrocarbon group, X is a halogen and n is 1W3, to form the catalyst system. Then, olefins are polymerized by use of this catalyst system.
