Abstract

PURPOSE:To find a misread character easily, by displaying a read result while varying a brightness level according to the similarity used when characters are recognized. CONSTITUTION:Characters printed on or entered in a document 1 are scanned 2 and converted into video signals. Then, a preprocessing circuit 3 generates binary character patterns from the video signals and sends them to a recognizing circuit 4, which calculates the similarity of each pattern to reference characters stored in a recognition dictionary 5 to obtain a reference character with maximum similarity as a read result. When the read result is rejected, a control circuit 7 displays a special mark and when not, a character which corresponds to the read result is displayed 6 while the brightness is increased when the similarity is less than a prescribed value. Thus, a misread character is found easily.
