Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform accurate pattern recognition in high speed with a simple constitution, by performing the comparison of standard pattern and the preprocessing of unknown pattern every unit, by taking the primary dimension pattern splitting the binary two dimension pattern information every row or column as a unit.

CONSTITUTION: The character of the paper 1 is picked up one by one with the pick up unit 2, the picture of binary two dimension constituted with the picture mesh is sequentially scanned horizontally, the picture data is outputted serially, and this data is sequentially inputted to the shift register 3. The control circuit 4 fetches the column pattern in the register 3 to the normalizing circuit 5 in synchronizing with the scanning of the unit 2, and the pattern code normalized with the circuit 5 is stored in the pattern memory 6. When the normalized unknown pattern is arranged in the memory 6, the data of the memory 6 and the information pattern stored in the dictionary memory 7 are compared at the similarity caluclation circuit 8, the result of comparison each row or column is fed to the adder 9 and the accurate pattern recogintion is made at the comparison processing circuit 10.
