Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled oligomer with superior polymerizing properties by purifying a reaction product obtd. by reacting PCl5 with NH4Cl in an org. solvent in the presence of org. acid salt of divalent metal as catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: PCl5 is reacted with NH4Cl in an org. solvent inert to chlorination in the presence of ≥1 kinds of org. acid salts of divalent metal as catalyst. After finishing the reaction, the solvent is distilled off to obtain a reaction product made essentially of cyclic phosphonitrile chloride oligomer (expressed as PNC hereunder) represented by a general formula (PNCl2)n (where n is 3W7). The reaction product is dissolved in ≥1 kinds of solvents selected from aliphatic hydrocarbon and ethers. This soln. is brought into contact with water at about 40W100°C and separated into an aqueous phase and an org. phase. PNC basing on a trimer and a tetramer is then recovered from the org. phase. This PNC can give a colorless phosphazene polymer causing no gelling and having a high polymn. degree and a narrow mol. wt. distribution.
