PURPOSE:To facilitate the periodic fault diagnosis of an additional processor, by operating a diagnosing circuit by decoding a specific instruction, which is to be executed by a central processor, by the additional processor. CONSTITUTION:A central processor 1 fetches an instruction from a storage device 3 and then executes it through a common bus 101, but this instruction is fetched by even a register 21 in an additional processor 2 and decoded by a decoder 22. Only when the instruction is specified, a diagnostic control circuit 23 operates to access a self-diagnostic program stored in a storage circuit 24, thereby performing the fault diagnosis of a circuit 25 to be diagnosed. If the fault is found as a result of the diagnosis, the result is set in a holding register 26. The central processor 1, when using the additional processor 2, checks the contents of the holding register 26 to know the fault state of the additional processor 2.
