Abstract

PURPOSE: A composition that is made by adding an amino resin to an acrylic polymer with hydroxyl groups on molecular ends, thus being suitably used as a top coating of high solid concentration, because of its giving of cured films of high staining and solvent resistance and permitting of the solvent to lower.
CONSTITUTION: 3W40wt% vinyl monomer containing hydroxyl groups, such as β-hydroxyethyl acrylate and 60W97wt% unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with the above monomer are copolymerized in a solvent, preferably an aromatic solvent in the presence of a hydrogen peroxide solution to prepare an acrylic copolymer of 500W5,000 average molecular weight and 0.5W2 hydroxyl groups per mole on molecular end. An amino resin or isocyanate compound is mixed with the resultant copolymer as a crosslinking agent. The composition is higher than 50% in solid concentration on painting.
